Institutes and Program Areas

The Dean of Students Office strives to provide a safe environment that supports and encourages the acceptance and appreciation of various cultures and heritages that comprise the university community. The Multicultural and Diversity Affairs staff at the Dean of Students Office assists students of color including African-American, Asian-American, Native American, Hispanic/Latino, and multi-racial; gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender students; and services for women students and student organizations, in their personal development by providing programs and initiatives that educate, motivate and challenge them as members of the University of Florida.

Asian Pacific American Affairs
As part of Multicultural and Diversity Affairs at the Dean of Students Office, Asian Pacific American Affairs seeks to provide support, assist in the personal development, and advocate for the needs of Asian Pacific American (APA) students while promoting awareness of APA issues throughout the UF community.

IBC - The Institute of Black Culture
The Institute of Black Culture (IBC), established in 1971, enhances the UF college experience and serves as a vehicle to share the cultures of the African Diaspora and enhance the University's social and cultural environment. The IBC presents educational awareness and programs on issues related to Black Culture. Also, the IBC collaborates with student organizations, university departments, and academic programs to provide support services to UF students.

IHLC The Institute of Hispanic-Latino Cultures
The Institute of Hispanic-Latino Cultures welcomes you to the University of Florida! The Institute, also referred to as “La Casita,” has become a place where students, faculty, staff and community can join together to celebrate and learn more about the rich heritage and diversity of the Hispanic-Latino community. La Casita sponsors a variety of social, cultural, and educational programs and events throughout the year. Known as a “home away from home,” the Institute also serves as a central station for all Hispanic/Latino based student organizations. Established in 1994 as a result of student initiatives, the Institute is the first of its kind in the Southeastern United States. We invite you to explore and take advantage of all that the Institute of Hispanic-Latino Cultures has to offer !

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Affairs
Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Affairs provides education, advocacy, and support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and straight-allied students, staff, and faculty at the University of Florida. LGBT Affairs aims to create a more hospitable campus climate for all students, faculty and staff at the University of Florida by increasing awareness and sensitivity of LGBT issues among the entire campus community and by facilitating the ability of all LGBT Gators to pursue their studies, jobs, and lives free from the threat of bigotry and discrimination.

American Indian Resource Center
The Multicultural Affairs staff provides advising and assistance for American Indian students and their organization 500 Nations. 500 Nations is committed to promoting indigenous values, cultural practices, and issues. Women's Programming
Women's programming includes the Women's Leadership Council and Women's History Month. The Women's Leadership Council is a diverse group of undergraduate women leaders at the University of Florida whose mission is to empower women with the resources and the skills that prepare them to lead in the diverse and ever-changing settings of the 21st century. Women's History Month, held annually during the month of March, is a vehicle for acknowledging, celebrating, and focusing on the accomplishments and contributions of women in society.
