Benefit-eligible staff and faculty, can register for domestic partner benefits through University of Florida Human Resources. Students can register for domestic partner benefits through Student Legal Services in the Reitz Union. When applying for domestic partner benefits, both parties must state the following:
- All below criteria is applicable and true for the immediately preceding twelve (12) months.
- We are each other's sole domestic partner and intend to remain so indefinitely.
- We share a primary residence.
- We are emotionally committed to one another, share joint responsibilities for our common welfare, and are jointly responsible for each other's financial obligations.
- We are each at least 18 years old and mentally competent to consent to a contract.
- We are not related by blood closer than would bar marriage in the State of Florida.
- We are not legally married to anyone else.
When applying for domestic partnership status in our office, you must provide two of the following documents:
- Proof of joint ownership of real property
- Proof of common ownership of an automobile
- Proof of joint bank accounts
- A will, retirement plan, or life insurance policy designating the other as primary beneficiary
- A rental agreement showing both parties
- Driver's licenses showing the same address for both parties
- IRS tax returns showing the same address for both parties
- Durable property or healthcare power of attorney granted by either party to the other
