McNair Scholars Program

The University of Florida McNair Scholars Program is currently accepting applications. The McNair Scholars Program exists to support undergraduate college students from low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented backgrounds in their progress toward a Ph.D.

To be considered for the McNair Scholars Program, an applicant must:

Application Process

  • Submit a 300 - 500 words personal statement describing your academic and career goals. Please explain why you are interested in obtaining a Ph. D, the area you are interested in studying, and why you think that participating in the McNair Program can help you reach those goals. Please remember to put your name and UFID on your personal statement.
  • Provide two recommendation letters. Recommendation letters must be from faculty members in your major, department or college who can best assess your ability for academic research and your motivation to attend graduate school. Each letter must be signed and placed in a sealed envelope, with the faculty member’s signature written across the sealed flap of the envelope. Ask each person writing a recommendation for you to send his/her letter directly to the McNair Program (at the address given at the beginning of the form) or directly to you, for submission with the application.
  • Provide a copy of your parents' income tax return in order to verify your financial status and eligibility to the program.
